Swimming

Children walk to the pools. As part of our Risk and Safety Management, we need parent help to walk with the children to and from school.

We are unable to exempt children from the swimming programme, just as we are unable to exempt children from a maths lesson. Swimming is a core part of the New Zealand Physical Education Curriculum. Given the number of adults and children that drowned over the December and January period this core aspect of a student's education is an important and very necessary one.

If, for medical reasons, your child is unable to participate in one of the sessions, please provide a medical certificate or similar documentation to the Principal.

For safety reasons all children in the class will walk to the pool and remain with their class and teacher, whether or not they are swimming.

Please bring

  • Named towels

  • swim wear

  • goggles and caps (the school has a supply of goggles and caps that children may borrow)

All in a large named plastic bag or similar.

Rash shirts and sun shirts are discouraged.
