General Information
Newmarket School Drop Off and Collection of Students
Morning drop-off
In the morning the lower car park gates open at 8.15am for pedestrians to come across the crossing and for cars to drive into the car park and either park on the fence side of the car park or use the drive through to drop children off. The walking gates are also opened at this time. Parents are welcome to walk children up to classrooms or to drop them off in the drive through by the main door. Please give way to pedestrians using our crossing.
Gates close at 8.45am promptly. After this time all students need to report to the office to sign in as late. The Ministry of Education classifies lateness as trunacy and a record is held of all lateness. Lateness affects students learning and progress and children have an unsettled start to the day. Be kind to your child and ensure they arrive at school in a timely manner.
Afternoon pick-up
In the afternoon the younger students and siblings come out the main door in the lower car park first and the older students a bit later. We try to have Year 0-2 students exit from about 2.30pm (Kowhai) and Year 3-6 students from 2.45pm (Titoki/Kahikatea).
The lower car park gates open at 2.15pm. Cars may park on both sides of the car park. It is helpful if early arrivals back in to car parks as this helps when driving out.
It is a very busy car park, drivers need to be cautious and patient, and watch out for pedestrians on the crossing. Staff do their best to help those driving out. Please do not block the centre driving area. If there are no availabe car parks drive out and come back a little later.
Students are able to wait under the awnings in the lower car park area until 3pm, then they are taken up to the office.
Scooters at School
We are a TravelWise School and encourage students to walk and scoot to school. Scooters are stored at the end of the main block. While scooters are kept in a secure area, we do not take responsibility for scooters at school.
Mobile phones - Smart Watches...
The governments has advised us that phones must not be used by students during the school day. We understand that for safety reasons that some parents like children to have a phone to monitor students getting to and from school. If you wish your child to have a mobile phone at school please let the class teacher know the reasons for this and note that the phone must stay in their school bag during the day. The school does not take any responsibility for equipment brought to school.
Similarly, Smart Watches must not be used for communication, or to take photos during the school day.
